Conditions I Treat

I diagnose and manage a wide range of inflammatory, autoimmune, and musculoskeletal conditions, from common problems to complex multisystem disorders. Click below to learn more about each area, and access trusted patient information resources.

  • Conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and axial spondyloarthritis cause inflammation in the joints and surrounding tissues. Symptoms may include joint pain, swelling, stiffness (especially in the morning), and fatigue. Early diagnosis and targeted treatment can reduce symptoms, preserve joint function, and improve quality of life.

  • These conditions are caused by the buildup of crystals within the joints. Gout is due to uric acid crystals, often affecting the big toe or other joints, and can cause sudden, intense pain and inflammation. Pseudogout (CPPD) involves calcium crystals and may mimic other types of arthritis. Both are treatable with medication and lifestyle changes.

  • Osteoporosis leads to weakened bones that break more easily, especially in the spine, hips, and wrists. It often goes undiagnosed until a fracture occurs. I offer assessment of bone density, fracture risk, and guidance on lifestyle and treatment options including bone-protective medications.

  • Includes Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR)Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA), and ANCA-associated vasculitis

These are inflammatory conditions that affect the joints, blood vessels, and sometimes internal organs.
PMR commonly causes muscle stiffness and pain, especially in the shoulders and hips.
GCA is a related condition that affects the arteries and may present with headaches, jaw pain, or visual symptoms.
ANCA-associated vasculitis is a group of rare autoimmune diseases that can affect the kidneys, lungs, and other organs.

  • These autoimmune conditions can affect joints, skin, lungs, kidneys, and other organs. Common types include lupus (SLE)Sjögren’s syndromesystemic sclerosis (scleroderma), and myositis. They may present with fatigue, rashes, mouth ulcers, dry eyes, or systemic symptoms.

  • Includes sarcoidosisBehçet’s diseaseadult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD) and Haemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).

These conditions can present with fevers, rashes, joint pain, mouth/genital ulcers, or internal-organ inflammation, and often require specialist, multi-disciplinary care.

  • Not all joint or muscle pain is inflammatory. I assess and treat a wide range of mechanical and soft-tissue problems, including:

    • Osteoarthritis

    • Tendinopathies (e.g. tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy)

    • Frozen shoulder

    • Plantar fasciitis

    • Bursitis

    • Fibromyalgia and widespread pain syndromes

These conditions can cause significant discomfort and may benefit from a combination of medication, targeted injections, physiotherapy, and lifestyle advice.
