Patient Information & Clinic Guide
Navigating the healthcare system can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you are dealing with pain or uncertain symptoms. Dr. Animesh Singh and his administrative team are dedicated to making your experience as smooth, transparent, and comfortable as possible. This guide is designed to answer common questions and ensure you feel fully prepared for your visit.
The Consultation Process: What to Expect
We believe that a thorough diagnosis requires time and attention. Here is how our consultations are structured:
-
Your first appointment is a comprehensive assessment. Dr. Singh will take a detailed history of your symptoms, review your past medical records, and conduct a physical examination. This is not just about identifying the immediate problem, but understanding how it affects your daily life.
Duration: Typically 30 minutes.
Outcome: By the end of this session, you will usually have a provisional diagnosis or a clear plan for further investigation (such as blood tests or imaging).
-
Once test results are back or a treatment plan has been started, a follow-up ensures that your recovery is on track.
Duration: Typically 15 minutes.
Outcome: Review of test results, adjustment of medication, and long-term management planning.
Preparing for Your Visit
To help us maximize the time we have together, please ensure you have the following ready before you arrive:
-
While self-referrals are welcome for self-pay patients, a referral letter from your GP is highly recommended. It provides Dr. Singh with vital context regarding your medical history and ensures continuity of care with your family doctor.
-
Please bring a physical list or photos of your current medications, including dosages. This is critical for avoiding drug interactions if new medications are prescribed.
-
If you have had X-rays, MRIs, or blood tests at other hospitals (NHS or Private) in the last 12 months, please bring copies. We do not always have automatic access to external records.
-
As a physical examination of joints is often required, wearing loose, comfortable clothing is helpful.
Insurance, Fees, and Billing
Dr. Singh is a recognized specialist with all major UK medical insurers, including BUPA, AXA PPP, Aviva, Vitality, WPA, and Cigna.
-
Pre-Authorization: You must contact your insurer before the appointment to get a pre-authorization code.
Policy Limitations: Please check your policy limits. Some policies have an "excess" (a contribution you must pay yourself) or limits on outpatient consultations. You are responsible for any fees not covered by your insurer.
Procedure Codes: If your insurer asks for a procedure code for a standard consultation, the code for an initial consultation is typically 20300 and a follow-up is 20310.
-
We offer transparent pricing for patients funding their own care.
Invoices are generated electronically and can be settled via a secure payment link or bank transfer.
Please note that costs for investigations (blood tests, scans) and pharmacy prescriptions are charged separately by the hospital, not by Dr. Singh.
Post-Consultation & Prescriptions
-
After your consultation, Dr. Singh will dictate a clinic letter summarizing the findings and the plan. Copies will be sent to your GP (unless you request otherwise) and to you. Please allow up to 5 working days for this to be processed.
-
If medication is required, Dr. Singh can issue a private prescription.
Private Prescriptions: You can take these to any pharmacy, but you will be charged the cost of the drug plus a dispensing fee by the pharmacist.
NHS Prescriptions: In some cases, Dr. Singh can recommend medication in his letter to your GP, who may then issue an NHS prescription. This is at the discretion of your GP and cannot be guaranteed.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
-
Yes. For follow-ups or discussion of results, video consultations via Carebit are often very efficient. However, for new symptoms involving joint pain, a face-to-face appointment is strongly preferred for a physical examination.
-
We require 24 hours' notice for cancellations. This allows us to offer the slot to another patient on our waiting list. Late cancellations may incur a fee.
